FAQs

When can I board the ship?
The boarding time for your ship and sailing date is specified on your boarding pass as selected during the "Online Check-In" process when you log into your Carnival.com account. Typically, you will need to be onboard 90 minutes prior to departure.
How do I pay for onboard purchases? Both Carnival and Royal Caribbean ships operate on a "cashless" system, meaning your boarding card (also known as Sail & Sign card or SeaPassCard) will be used as a charge card to make all onboard purchases. Most guests activate this account using a credit card such as American Express, MasterCard, Visa, Discover, etc. Guests may also activate this system with traveler's checks, debit cards (with a Visa or MasterCard logo) or cash.
Is internet access available from the ship? Yes, Carnival and Royal Caribbean offer wi-fi internet access for a nominal fee. Check their website for more information.
What items are not allowed onboard the cruise ship? Weapons, illegal drugs and several other items that could interfere with the safe operation of the ship or the safe and secure environment of the guests and crew are prohibited. Click here for a full list.
Am I required to use a passport to cruise? It is highly recommended that you obtain a valid passport to travel to destinations outside of the United States. However, most cruise lines will allow you to use a certified copy of your birth certificate (may be obtained from the courthouse for a nominal fee). Either of these documents may be used with a non-expired government-issued photo I.D. for all guests 16 years of age and older. These IDs include: driver's license, driver's permit, school/student ID (ages 16/17/18) or government-issued identification card (city/state/federal).
Can I cancel my cruise and get my money back? All cruise lines allow you to cancel up to a certain date. Cancellation policies typically penalize you in increments of 25%, 50%, 75% by specific dates as well as allowing no refund up to a month before the sail date. However, Carnival and Royal Caribbean offer vacation protection plans. See the specific cruise line website or contact us for more information.
May I bring bottles water onboard? Guests of Carnival are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages onboard that are packaged in bottles. You may place a pre-cruise order through the Fun Shops. Royal Caribbean allows guests to bring bottled water but you must be aware that it will all be subject to inspection by security.

Guests of Royal Caribbean may also order water in advance and have it delivered to your cabin prior to arrival.
Is there a limit to how much luggage I can bring? Guests are encouraged to limit their luggage to two suitcases per guest and each suitcase should not weigh more than 50 pounds or exceed 16"H x 24"w. This is information is printed on the luggages tags. All luggage must have a tag attached listing the guest's name and stateroom number. Carry on bags are not required to have a luggage tag. The cruise line assumes no responsibility for carry-on luggage.
Should I pack my medications and valuables in my luggage? No. Luggages should be unlocked during screening so it is recommended that guests personally carry-on any boarding documentation (passports, Visas, I.D.), valuables, medications and any items that require special handling on/off the ship.
Do I have to dress up for dinner? Most evenings, the Carnival dining rooms are cruise casual dress code but there is at least one night per cruise where guests have the opportunity to showcase more elegant attire and have photos taken at various locations throughout the ship. Formal wear is not required but this one night you'll need something nice!

On Royal Caribbean cruises, you may have 2-3 formal nights so you can dress up and have your picture taken throughout the ship! You are not required to wear a tux or evening gown, but it's definitely not a shorts or beachwear night! Dress up and have fun!
